Deftones is an American rock band from Sacramento, California formed in 1988. Their sound has been described as ranging from alternative metal, dream pop and nu metal, to progressive rock and art rock.

Critics have often praised them as one of the closest to unique rock bands of recent years for their innovative, atmospheric music; as Johnny Loftus writes, “Rock critics usually reserve a special place for Deftones above or at least away from the rest of the turn-of-the-century metal movement […] Deftones have always seemed more curious, more willing to incorporate traditionally revered sounds like dream pop into their Northern California alt-metal.”

Frontman Chino Moreno’s poetic lyrics - described by a Time magazine critic as “fiercely intelligent” - are often evocative, yet are sparse enough to allow for multiple interpretations. Moreno has cited Morrissey, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, The Cure’s Robert Smith, and Depeche Mode’s David Gahan among his favorite singers, and beyond an occasional similarity in vocal technique, these singers’ sweeping sense of drama and delicate vulnerability is often evident in Moreno’s vocals and has often been likened to that of Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw). (Last.fm)

One of the best bands ever, I have nothing more to say.

Norway must either be an incredibly progressive country, or one with extremely limited musical resources. How else could the overtly aggressive electronic lounge jazz of the duo Xploding Plastix get nominated for that country's version of the Grammys? Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents is the sound of Henry Mancini snorting lines of Aphex Twin at a party with the Cinematic Orchestra. It is a surprisingly simple method that involves taking comfortably familiar samples of exotica orchestration, then amp-ing everything up past 11 with the distortion meters settled deep in the red. Preferring the surgical efficiency and precision of working with robots(of the human variety or otherwise), the music of MUON is a cold and bleak trip into a landscape where the marriage between dehumanized emotion and callous machines is perfectly complete. During their career they have encompassed a wide range of styles from hip hop and rap to electronica and jazz-inflected sounds. In 1991 they started their own record label, Ninja Tune, which continues to release groundbreaking and extremely diverse music by a small army of like-minded artists. (Last.fm)

She Wants Revenge is a darkwave duo hailing from Los Angeles, California who formed in 2005. The band is comprised of Justin Warfield and Adam 12. She Wants Revenge draws inspiration from various bands including Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure and The Sisters of Mercy. The band blends their influences with ever-present electronics (eg. synths and drum machines) in the style of “darkwave”, a style of music remniscent of the New Wave and Gothic Rock sounds of the 1980s.

She Wants Revenge have stated that they make “dance music” on numerous occasions setting them aside from other contemporary bands often falsely linked with the band in the music press. (Last.fm)

One of my all-time favourites. Great beats, voice and lyrics.
